Volante Rosso adds pair of SR3 XXRs to Radical Cup campaign

Volante Rosso Motorsport will have two of the latest SR3 XXRs at its disposal for the 2025 First Focus Radical Cup Australia season.

Jim Hernandez and Peter Clare will step up to the latest SR3 XXR, which debuted on Australian shores last year to wide acclaim.

Producing 202bhp and weighing in at 620kg, the SR3 XXR is an evolution on the previous model and is the result of a decade of learning to produce the ultimate Radical.

Hernandez and Clare return to spearhead the Volante Rosso Motorsport attack, with the latter contesting the Radical Cup Australia for the first time solo. Both drivers are confirmed for the season, as Volante Rosso Motorsport head to the Phillip Island opener with four entries.

Greg Kenny and Melinda Price will continue their partnership at the Island, while Will Midland rounds out the quartet. Both these entries are yet to confirm their full schedules for the season.

Radical Cup Australia will contest five rounds in 2025 exclusively as part of the relaunched Shannons SpeedSeries joining the likes of GT World Challenge Australia powered by AWS and Monochrome GT4 Australia on the roster.

The opening round of the Radical Cup Australia will be held at Phillip Island on April 4-6.

Josh Hunt - Director, Volante Rosso Motorsport

“We’ll be going into the first round with four cars confirmed,” said Hunt.

“Volante Rosso Motorsport is lucky to introduce two SR3 XXRs this season. A test day has been completed with one of the new models and a lot of it translates from the older model such as the set-up philosophies, which is nice.”

“Last year was the introduction of the SR3 XXR to Australia and it was a really big step up. There was a bit of pace there, a little bit of power, a bit of weight, which are general refinements.

“This is the model the two title contenders drove and Radical have just put into one car what’s been learnt during the last decade.

“Jim Hernandez drove the test day and really enjoyed it. I believe it’s a big step up for the amateur drivers in terms of making the package more forgiving and a little nicer to drive than what it is for an outright pace point of view for a Pro.

“It doesn’t make the older model obsolete, it just introduces a little more refinement that is great, especially for the amateur drivers.

“Even from what we’ve seen from the development side of things in the way that it has worked for Alex Gardner to the way we can coach drivers through Radicals is really quite incredible. It not only prepares those drivers for their career onwards, but also for the gentlemen races category where they are cool cars to race and the bang for buck is next to nothing.

“It’s a really, really good group of people both in the Radical Cup Australia organisation, the teams competing and the customers, which we’ve all had a relationship with at one point.

“We enjoy the category and we hope to continue as long as we can.”
