A 19-STRONG field will tackle the opening round of the brand-new Radical Cup Australia Series at the Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit next week.
The positive reaction to the new series, formed in partnership between official Australian Radical distributors, Radical Australia East and Radical Australia West, has resulted in a competitive field with drivers drawn from across Australia to compete.
The grid includes five cars making the trek from the West, entered by Wanneroo-based Arise Racing, as well as a host of names familiar to one-make Radical competition in Australia.
The Shannons Motorsport Australia Championships event will see the Radical Cup Australia field practice on Friday before a 30-minute qualifying session Saturday, to be followed by the first of two 25-minute sprint races that afternoon.
The 50-minute enduro will kick off Sunday’s program before the final sprint race completes the three-race program.
A pair of combinations have elected to enter two drivers, with a view to the 50-minute enduro on Sunday morning.
Peter Paddon and Peter Carr will join forces aboard Paddon’s #31 First Focus entry, while Arise Racing will field the #35 RSX for Adam Lisle and former Formula 3 racer, Jordan Oon.
The race includes a compulsory pit stop where those fielding two drivers will be able to swap.
The remaining 17 combinations will run solo across the three races.
Familiar names included on the entry list include noted GT racers Ash Samadi and Andrew MacPherson and proven one-make Radical winners Chris Perini, Stephen Champion and Nick Kelly.
As well as the impressive Arise Racing contingent and a host of competitors fielding their own vehicles, entries have also come from Sydney Radical powerhouse GWR Australia, Volante Rosso and RA Motorsports.
All competitors will be allocated two sets of brand-new Hankook tyres for the event, able to be used from Qualifying onwards.
Series awards will be outright Radical Cup Australia champion, the Radical Masters – for drivers over the age of 50 - and the Rookie of the year.
Along with official tyre supplier Hankook, Royal Purple Synthetic Oil and Amadio Wines have also confirmed their support for the series this year.
Coverage of the two sprint races from Phillip Island will be broadcast live on Stan Sport on Saturday and Sunday.
A major prize package for the 2022 series, plus confirmation of the series’ fifth round (currently listed as ‘TBA’) will come prior to round one.
CHARISE BRISTOW – Category Manager
“We’re really pleased to attract the field we have assembled for Round 1,” Bristow said.
“We have quite literally started from scratch with the Radical Cup Australia. It’s a clean slate and we knew it would take some time to establish – but this reaction is better than we had expected.
“Both the quality and quantity of the field is exactly what we are hoping to achieve with the Series, so this is a great start.
“It’s going to produce great racing for our competitors and for those watching at the track, or on TV.”
