GOLD STAR LEADER ADDED TO SYDNEY GRID

CURRENT S5000 AUSTRALIAN Drivers’ Championship leader Joey Mawson will switch his skills to the Workhorse Radical Cup Australia this weekend in the season opener at Sydney Motorsport Park.

Mawson, already a two-time Gold Star champion, will team with Mark Rosser aboard his Team BRM-prepared Radical SR3 this weekend for a pair of 50-minute races at the Sydney venue.

Mawson and Rosser are already regular teammates in S5000 competition and contested the Bathurst 12 Hour together – with Nick Percat – in 2022.

“I’ve raced Radicals a few years ago and I’m really looking forward to getting back in one this weekend, thanks to Mark for the opportunity,” Mawson said.

“I’m very much excited to see what it’s like again, it’s completely opposite to drive to the S5000 – Radicals have a lot of grip and not as much power, so the driving style is very different.

“It will be good partnering with Mark this weekend and a great chance for him to properly learn the track and continue his process of reaching the limit.

“It’s about giving him more confidence at the limit that he can translate to the S5000 and continue to get to the front of the field in the Radical as well.

“The Radical is hooked up, but it moves around and if he can be confident with that, he will be confident in everything.”

Rosser and Mawson will be one of five combinations electing to run two drivers this weekend, with each race’s mandatory pit stop window allowing for drivers to switch mid-race.

Other two-driver combinations include Jordan Oon & Karting rookie Zara Horn (Arise Racing), Peter Clare & Josh Hunt (Volante Rosso), Greg Kenny and Melinda Price (Volante Rosso) and Terry Knowles and Barton Mawer (Aus Nets).

The 20-strong Radical field will tackle two races this weekend at Sydney; Sunday’s race to be shown live via 7plus and the Radical social media channels.
