TIGHT TIMES at the top of the charts highlighted the opening day at Round 2 of the Workhorse Radical Cup Australia Series today at Queensland Raceway.
Incredibly close times highlighted the pair of 20-mintue sessions held today, Arise Racing's Jordan Oon punching out a 1m10.9969s flyer in the first session to set the quickest time of the day.
Young Star Alex Gardner topped the second session later in the afternoon, his 1m11.0100s best only marginally behind Oon's first practice benchmark in the fight for quickest time of the day.
Practice one set the tone with Oon and Adam Lisle topping Peter Paddon by 0.1 seconds with Alex Gardner in third.
Peter Clare and Josh Hunt's Volante Rosso entry was fourth and West Aussie Elliott Schutte fifth - the top five covered by just three-tenths of a second.
Oon's flyer itself was only 0.5 seconds off the lap record established at QR last year by Mitch Neilson, and quicker than any time during the equivalent practice or qualifying sessions last year.
Gardner topped the warmer afternoon session by just 0.19 seconds, Arise Racing's Cooper Cutts a strong second in his #16 entry.
Clare and Hunt backed up Volante Rosso's strong Friday pace in third, while Bart Mawer and Terry Knowles climbed into the top five aboard the #68 Aus Nets entry, finishing the session fourth.
Once again Schutte was fifth, just 0.44s off the outright pace.
The top nine cars were covered by 0.9 seconds as a pointer towards an intense qualifying session tomorrow.
A busy Saturday on track will see a third practice session at 10:05am, followed by Qualifying (12:45pm) and the first 50-minute race at 4:00pm.
That action can be followed with live timing via Natsoft Race Results on Saturday.
Sunday's final race will be broadcast live on 7plus and the Radical social media channels.
